What is the Young Carers Initiative?
The Commonwealth Charter for Young Carers
2023 is the Commonwealth Year of Youth and with the development of the Commonwealth Young Carers Charter there has been significant progress in the need for young carers recognition and support in countries around the world.
Young carers from across the Commonwealth informed and developed this Charter, engaging in consultation activities that were grounded in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Thank you to the young carers from Australia, Canada, England, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda who informed this charter and were champions for young carers across the globe.
What's on offer?
Strategy development: Development or review of polices, strategies, action plans implementing Memorandums of Understanding and local partnership agreements. Local Authority Young Carers and Unpaid Carers local strategies.
Service development: Research, impact measurement and evaluation of services. Bid writing, service modelling and development.
Event Planning and delivery: Conference and training events management and delivery. Young peoples consultation, participation and engagement events. Assemblies and school workshops.
